Again running pretty close to the wire here on getting this done in time for people to see it, but Video 11 is now posted, as well as the handout.
Video 10, for Tuesday
This one’s coming a bit late, but here is Video 10 (do-support and subjects), for Tuesday, and the accompanying handout.
Ok, let’s delay Thursday’s homework
Yeah, I think it probably would be best to have another class meeting at least before the homework I handed out is due. So. Let’s say Homework 4 is due on Thursday instead. We’ll keep moving forward in the class, but my plan now is: Homework 4 due Feb 23, Homework 5 out Feb 23, due Mar 3. I think it will be helpful to talk through this stuff some more in class, this is where it really started getting complicated and I want to make sure everyone’s more or less “on board.”
So: don’t stay up all night Wednesday night trying to get homework 4 done. Have a look at it before class, but you won’t need to hand it in on Thursday.
Three examples
I thought it would be kind of useful to do a couple of example trees, in the system that was developed in the previous video. So I took a video of me drawing three trees. It is marginally better than not having a video. You can read what I wrote if you hear me say what I’m writing as I write it. Also, due to not entirely knowing where the frame was, there are occasionally small bits left to your imagination off the top and bottom of the frame, but I think all the important stuff is visible.
Anyway.
Video 9, for Thursday
Here’s the next video, it’s another hour-ish-long one: Video 9, the 8th video. And the handout.
At the end of the video I speculate about how I might put up an additional video or something, to show some worked-out examples, since the video is mainly running through the theory and the ideas, without a lot of individual examples provided. I still may do that, though I think it will be a couple of days before it arrives. Check back here, maybe Monday evening.
Video 8, for Thursday
And, here is Video 8, the 7th video, as well as the handout that goes along with it. Shortest one yet, this actually came in just under a half hour, surprisingly. You can watch it twice if you wish.
Video 7, For Tuesday
And this is Video 7, the 6th video: Video 7, and the accompanying handout. This one’s only about 45 minutes long, so shorter than the previous two were. Hooray!
Real handout for Video 6
Oops. I accidentally cut the handout for Video 6 off at the first 6 slides, rather than the 6 pages it was supposed to be. The real handout is here: Real handout 6, and I’ll go back and update the link on the previous post to point to this as well (so if you were slow to grab the handout, you won’t have noticed).
Video 6, for Thursday
Video 5, for Tuesday
Video 5 is finally available. It is here: Video 5. And the accompanying handout is here: Handout 5. This one is longer than the prior ones, it clocked in at 1:08. I will try to keep future ones below the 1 hour mark where possible.
In it, there are a couple of things to do in preparation for class. One of them is to work out how to assemble “Chris glanced at Pat.” Not for turning in, but for discussing. The other is at the end, thinking about complements and adjuncts and why the last sentence on the handout is ungrammatical.
